January 27-30, 2016Going Green in the Community Association – Interest in eco-friendly practices continues to rise substantially in our community associations nationwide. In turn, many associations face significant pressure to reconcile long-standing restrictive covenants and architectural controls with materials and devices that, in many instances, are directly antithetical to the common scheme embodied in the association’s governing documents. Demands for “going green” may come from individual unit owners or directly from a board of directors seeking to promote energy efficiency or other eco-friendly goals on behalf of the association. Moreover, many state legislatures have jumped on the bandwagon and have imposed statutory limitations upon an associations’ authority to regulate alternative energy components. In this interactive session, you will learn about the types of energy solutions currently available in the marketplace for our community associations and how the associations can “go green” without ending up “in the red” or in the courthouse.
